Renal Artery Duplex Ultrasound
A renal artery ultrasound examines the arteries that supply the kidneys with blood. These arteries branch off from the abdominal aorta and can sometimes become narrowed or dilated. Narrowing of the renal arteries can potentially cause loss of renal function or high blood pressure, and aneurysms can open and bleed if allowed to continue to enlarge.
A renal artery ultrasound requires fasting for 4 hours prior and testing can take up to 30 minutes.
