Mesenteric Arterial Duplex Ultrasound
A mesenteric arterial ultrasound will examine the mesenteric arteries. The mesenteric arteries branch off from the abdominal aorta and are responsible for supplying the bowel with blood. Narrowing of the mesenteric arteries can cause the loss of ability to properly digest food, and aneurysms can open and bleed if allowed to continue to enlarge
A mesenteric arterial ultrasound requires fasting for 6-8 hours prior and testing can take up to 30 minutes
